Summary:

Following on from the hugely popular Winemakers Selection of 2018, Walmart aimed higher in 2019, launching 11 new varietals, Sauvignon Blanc being one of its most unique. Amazingly, the coastal New Zealand vineyard from which it’s sourced is mowed sustainably using Baby Doll Sheep, and its proprietor plays classical music to the vines, which he swears promote healthy grapes.

To convey the varietal’s unconventional origins, while working to an eight-week pre-press artwork deadline, we incorporated a die-cut label depicting the vineyard’s rolling hills and resident sheep – alongside a gramophone beaming musical notes, which gracefully melt into the vine. Thick cotton paper stock with a matte de-boss gives weight to the sheep’s wool and adds texture, as silver foil provides a soft highlight. These exceptional elements executed beautifully and artfully, engage millennial wine drinkers at the point-of-purchase while demonstrating quality and ensuring standout in a mature and fully populated category.
